The Pursgloves of Ashbourne -[ASHB]

Known as the 'Gateway to the Peaks', Ashbourne was established as a market town in 1257, situated on Henmore Brook which is a tributary of the River Dove near Dovedale.

The Royal Shrovetide Football Match has been played in Ashbourne for centuries and still takes place, despite moves to ban it during the 19th century.  This town has a good range of shops and facilities and boasts some very old buildings of merit.  The historical economy is predominantly based on agriculture and market trade.

Frances Pursglove [605] married William Spence on 7/11/1744 at Ashbourne St. Oswald
