The Pursgloves of Chapel-en-le-Frith - [CELF]

This community started as a Norman hunting lodge in  the High Peak some time in the 12th Century, hence the French name for "Chapel in the Forest".  The current Church dates from 1225 AD but was rebuilt as the Church of St Thomas Becket in the 18th Century.

The town has had a Thursday market since before 1636 and it is also host to the more recent brake-lining manufacturer Ferodo.

John Howe, husbandman, married Alice Purslowe [307] on 29/4/1764
