The Derby Pursgloves - [DRBY]

Derventio was a Roman encampment on the banks of the Derwent which was probably the start of the habitation of Derby.  This was replaced by a fort in 80 AD on the opposite bank at Strutts Park.

In 1717, John Lombe and George Sorocold built Lombe's Mill which was the first water-powered silk mill and the first factory in the world.  Derby went on to become a centre for railway manufacture.  In 1876, the introduction of the Plimsoll line enhanced marine safety. Derby is also the manufacturing centre for Rolls Royce, being a major producer of aircraft engines.

St Peters Church is shown here.

Many of the later records of the Derby Pursgloves show the name as Purselove
