The Pursgloves of Hayfield - [HAYF]

The village is situated in the High Peak on the River Sett to the east of Manchester and north of Chapel-en-le-Frith. It includes the hamlet of Little Hayfield.  The site was established along a series of natural springs. and it was an important packhorse route going back to Roman times.  The predominant industries were sheep farming and framework knitting as well as clog making.  Later, calico printing was developed in the village.  There are a number of local stone quarries.

The village claims to be at the "foot of Kinder Scout", though it is just outside of the Peak District National Park boundary. St Matthew's Parish Church (shown) is on one side of the village and St John Methodist Church is on the other side of the main A624 relief road.
