The Pursgloves of North Wingfield - [NWNG]
Recorded in Domesday as Winnefelt, which is a family name that may have preceded the manorial village. The church of St. Lawrence is a Norman Building and it is known to be built on the site of an earlier Saxon church. The church was re-dedicated to St. Helen around 1640, but is now known by its original dedication. Many of the gravestones are standing in their original condition. The small hamlets of Hillyfields, Hepthorne Lane, Highfields and Church Hill are all now part of North Wingfield. |
