The Pursgloves of Oakerthorpe - [OAKT]

Oakerthorpe lies within the parish of South Wingfield.  In ancient times this was a small rural settlement known as Unkerthorpe and Limbury, but with the arrival of the colliery, the whole area was redeveloped as a mining village.  The Oakerthorpe Iron and Coal Company was registered on 25 Nov 1858 and much of the local housing was built to accommodate workers from this time onwards.
