The Pursglove of Shirebrook - [SHBR]

Shirebrook is a small market town on the Derbyshire - Nottinghamshire border and parts of the town are administered in each county, The bulk of the town is now in Derbyshire, but the station at Langwith Junction is in Nottinghamshire.  The Parish Church of the Holy Trinity was built in 1848.  There is also a record of the Primative Methodist Chapel (Congregational Church) in 1870.  In 1935, the village of Upper Langwith was amalgamated with Shirebrook.

This is a mining town and in 1896 the Shirebrook Colliery Company sunk 2 shafts to establish the local pit.

Joseph Pursglove was born in Tibshelf and resided in Shirebrook - enlisted Pte 17280 2nd Batt. Royal Leicester Regiment at Mansfield.  Killed in Mesopotamia 6/07/1916.  (Formerly of the Notts and Derbys Regiment 23799)
