The Pursgloves of South Wingfield - [SWFD]

Winefeld was settled by Danes prior to the Norman Conquest.  The Normans used the name Wynnfeld - meaning 'heather field'.

The parish church of South Wingfield (All Saints) is just within Oakerthorpe parish on the banks of the River Amber, having 14th century features.  There is also a coaching inn. Parish records start in 1585.

Wingfield Manor (Oakey) Colliery was commissioned in 1902 and closed 1968.
