The Pursgloves of Bilborough - [BILB]

The name seems to derive from the 'Fort of Billa' - this derivation has also been used for Bilborough in Yorkshire.  This village is now a suburb of Nottingham, based around the Church of St. John the Baptist.  The church of St Martins of Tours was dedicated in 1450.  As the village developed in size, St John the Baptist was built on Leeside in the Victorian period.  This church was bombed and destroyed on 08/04/1941. It was later replaced by a wooden hut.  The new church of St John the Baptist was built on Graylands Road and dedicated on 21/03/1959.

This part of the City of Nottingham is mainly residential and has a strong educational base including Bilborough College and annexes of Nottingham University.
