The Pursgloves of Ollerton - [OLER]
This settlement is on the River Maun which has expanded to include the village of Broughton. The name was originally Allerton which in Old English means 'Farm near Alders'. This was an important crossroads on the York to London and the Worksop to Newark routes. In the early 1920's the village was expanded to accommodate miners working in the local collieries. Ollerton Colliery was built in 1926 and worked until its closure in 1994. |
