Married Mary Peat on 25th January 1913 at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire

John in the garden of 36 Wood Lane, Church Warsop in the 1930's.  This was a model colliery village with centrally supplied hot water piped to all houses, outside toilets next to the house and a bath fitted under the stairs.  Their house had four large bedrooms and a large iron cooking range in the kitchen.

This is the only known photograph of John.

In 1918, his brother David (who was a Coal Miner) died, leaving £40 9s 5d in his will to John Pursglove, greengrocer.

John was a collier, working at Warsop Main Colliery.  He was also a keen gardener and also kept a seasonal pig at the end of the garden for several years, to fatten up for Christmas.

In 1913, John married Mary Peat from Mansfield Woodhouse.  John's sister Edith also married Mary's brother George.  The two couples lived in the next street and were very close.

On the right is one of the few photographs of Mary, taken about 1950 at the front of 36 Wood Lane.
