Pursgloves in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia

This part of Australia has been inhabited for 30,000 years by the Cadigal people.  James Cooke landed at Botany bay in 1770.  Subsequently in 1788 a convict colony was founded here.  A local epidemic caused large numbers of deaths amongst the aboriginal people reducing their population significantly. From the 1830's there was a significant development of buildings and infrastructure and the city was incorporated in 1842.  Sydney is now the financial centre for Australia and the regional capital of New South Wales.
