Pursgloves in Martins Ferry, Ohio


Martins Ferry is in Belmont County, Ohio,  it is the oldest recorded settlement in Ohio, having been established in 1779.  It sits on the west bank of the Ohio River and developed as an extension of Wheeling, West Virginia.  The town was given City status in 1875.  The economy is based on dairy farming and bakery production, the largest local employer is now the East Ohio Regional Hospital.


Thomas W. Pursglove [1874] married Clara Sheets on 14 Now 1907.  Thomas was the son of Samuel Pursglove and Lydia Thornley.
