Pursgloves in Pursglove, Vest Virginia

This town started as a village called Barker, the settlement was a farmstead and collection of miners homes.  In 1918 a post office (picture) was established here in Scott Run, Cass District, Monongalia Co., as a result of extensive housing development by the Pursglove Coal Company in order to accommodate workers for a new mining development.  The resulting town was re-named Pursglove.  Many of the original houses were timber built to a good standard, using locally sourced lumber.  The town had been extensively re-developed since this time.
