The Pursgloves of Ashburnham - [ASHM]

This village takes its name from Ashburnham House, built by the Ashburnham family alongside the Ashbourne stream.  It is a small settlement alongside Penhurst, which form a joint parish based at St Peters Church, Ashburnham.
The village economy was based on agriculture and iron smelting.  The last blast furnace in Sussex was here, closing in 1813.
