The Pursgloves of Ecclesall Bierlow - [ECBL]

This is one of six parishes that make up what is now the City of Sheffield.  This includes the wards of Bents Green, Ecclesall, Greystones, Millhouses, and Ringinglow.  The area covers much of the land between the River Sheaf and Porters Brook and was known as one of the "six townships".

In Domesday, this land was part of the Manor of Hallam.  Sir Ralphus De Ecclesall settled here after 1200 AD.  The hamlets in this area expanded during the industrial revolution to form what is now an integral suburb of the City of Sheffield.
